Position: Director for Finance and Operations

Position Summary
The Director for Finance and Operations is a key member of the school‘s leadership team, responsible for the strategic and effective management of finance, operations, facilities, and risk. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, strong leader, and effective communicator with demonstrated expertise in financial and operational management.
Key Responsibilities
Finance: Develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures; oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, reporting, accounting, purchasing, payroll, banking, assets, and tax compliance; provide financial guidance to senior leadership and the Board; and ensure compliance with financial requirements related to grants and sponsorships, including U.S. State Department funding.
Operations: Oversee school operations, facilities management, procurement, logistics, and contracted services. Manage vendors and service-level agreements for food services, transportation, security, and facility rentals.
Facilities & Capital Projects: Lead the development and implementation of medium- and long-term facilities plans. Oversee maintenance, repairs, upgrades, facilities budgets, and expenditures. Lead bidding, vendor selection, and contractor management for capital construction and renovation projects. Manage project budgets, costs, change orders, and contingency reserves, and provide regular updates to the Head of School and Board. Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and government offices regarding permits, building codes, and local regulations.
Risk & Emergency Preparedness: Lead campus security, emergency planning, disaster preparedness, occupational health and safety, and risk management. Serve as a key member of the school‘s Incident Command / Crisis Response Team.
Innovation: Identify and implement technologies, systems, and processes that improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability of school finance, operations, and facilities.
People Management: Lead and support the Finance and Facilities teams, ensuring staff are appropriately trained, equipped, and supported. Provide guidance to faculty and staff on finance and operations matters.
External Relations & Reporting: Represent KAS with banks, government agencies, auditors, investment firms, insurance providers, vendors, and other external partners. Provide regular financial, operational, and capital project reports to senior leadership and the Board. Attend Board and Finance Committee meetings as required and oversee the annual audit process.
Child Protection & Safeguarding: Complete required child protection training and background screening. Ensure facilities staff, contractors, and vendors comply with KAS safeguarding, visitor management, and campus safety policies.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor‘s or Master‘s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 10+ years of senior management experience, preferably in finance and operations within an educational institution.
• Strong financial management, analytical, strategic planning, and project management skills.
• Demonstrated experience with capital construction/renovation projects, including bidding, contractor selection, and budget management.
• Senior finance/operations experience in Taiwan, with knowledge of Taiwan tax law, labor law, accounting practices, and construction permitting.
• Strong leadership, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• High emotional intelligence and demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Fluency in English and Mandarin required.
